Thanks for the post and detailing why and who you write for (which is quite generous). I think some see new accounts and think that person is new to writing. New to writing versus new to Substack should be obvious as not necessarily one and the same. But alas in a day and age where the Almighty Scroll (and i mean that finger flicking verb, not the ancient and sacred noun), so many are flipped past and dismissed. I got another kind of finger flick to that phenomenon. Ha! Happy Friday all
I resonate deeply with your journey of finding your voice on Substack. Writing authentically, free from imposed standards, is liberating and necessary. Your dedication to self-expression and community connection is inspiring. Keep bleeding your heart onto the page—it's clear you're making a meaningful impact. Here's to embracing your unique rhythm and writing for those who find solace and inspiration in your words.
I’m pondering the same as my Substack originally started to share my conception struggles and now I’m writing with a babe in arms I’m changing direction and worrying that people won’t be interested anymore. But like you I’ve decided to write what I want, how I want, when I want with no Substack glory in mind. At the bare minimum my writing serves as a creative outlet and that is enough for me! ps your cat and his starfish was very amusing 😂
From someone who has spent too much of her life worrying about what others think, I appreciate and admire that you are being YOU and writing what YOU want to write. Love it!
What you said was simultaneously profound and uber affirming to me. I am a newbie here too. There are so many times when I join a new platform and the first thing I do is scour the web or even the platform itself for how best to utilize it. This post was liberating to read. Thanks for sharing.
Brickhouse here 🙋🏿♀️ (BTW, it ain't all that it's cracked up to be) I luv this. I saw something the other day, telling writers to NOT use pics and/or videos. Cuz Substack is about the beauty of words. I almost replied, "Fuck that!" I use them all the time. But decided against it...they'd probably think those words were unbeautiful.😜😆
Ooh, a Stardew Valley shoutout? We love to see it. I’m happy I found your Substack! I’m starting fresh on this platform after running one two years ago, and reading this gave me some steam to keep going.
This was the first thing I read this morning and I'm so glad I did. I just started my Substack 2 days ago and I really don't know what I'm doing. Reading your post gave me the relief I didn't know I needed, so THANK YOU. I'm excited to read more!
Loving this! I too just write on Substack because I enjoy it. If it resonates with anyone, amazing. If not, no worries, I’m not hurting anyone. Oddly, I’ve been less online since I started using Substack and I’ve been engaging in many more creative endeavours. Not for the “engagement” or the “content” or the uptick in followers. Just because I want to. (Also love the shoutout to Stardew Valley - cannot WAIT for the 1.6 update to hit the Switch!) 💚
I’ve been less online too! It’s inspired me to read more, observe more, live more. And I’m waiting for 1.6 to come to PlayStation, everyone knows I’ll be gone for at least a month after 😂
