Or, A Response for Those Who Deserve None

Why don’t you understand?

We shall be honest

It is because you don’t care to.

You have pompously decided

that my self care

is frivolous

as if

you are the authority on frivolity.

Don’t you understand

the weight of your world is

killing me us?

Why can’t you understand

that I can soften

and still

empathize

sympathize

feel affection

and anger

and sadness

for my brethren

that can’t afford

softness

because softness

may get them killed.

Again, by your world.

Why won’t you understand

That as I attempt to stay alive

mentally and emotionally Physically

I will still do all I can

for my disadvantaged brethren

of the world

all of us

understanding

that my help

will never

be enough.

You do understand

that capitalism

capitalizes

off the breaking

of my back

It rejoices

in the snapping

of my vertebrae

and the bulging

of my discs

It revels

in the spasms

of the muscles of

my back and legs

the bleeding of my fingers

from which the bones show

You choose not to understand

that the resetting of my bones

the bandaging of my flesh

is an act of rebellion

You do understand

that denying me rest

will lead to my death

so you kill the remedies found

in my Grandmothers garden

I understand

that I can rest

and reset

and still hold a place

for those who cannot

I understand

that I must rest

in order to be

the safe space

that you need to destroy

so that you may

capitalize

off our blood and livelihoods

We both understand

that you have read my words

and are angered

because you understand.

I understand

that you will reject

the free education

because for you

there is strength

in your ignorance.

Many of us understand

that the tears of the rested flow

because of your

purposeful misunderstanding

which

will destroy us all.
